HOW DID IT GET ITS NAME?
According to Greek Mythology, Proteus (the son of Poseidon) was believed to be a shape-shifter. Similarly, Protea flowers present themselves in more than 1,400 varieties of shapes, sizes, hues and textures. Thus, the Protea was named after the shape-shifting Proteus.
It is otherwise known as the Sugarbush, as it produces a high amount of nectar—how sweet!
